Why PAIN RELIEF THROUGH ACUPUNCTURE AND CHINESE MEDICINE

Beware The PAIN RELIEF THROUGH ACUPUNCTURE AND CHINESE MEDICINE

Once inserted, the needle activates spinal nerve fibers that eventually block (close the 'gate') pain messages from reaching T-cells in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord.
So pain messages don't reach the thalamus/cortex of the brain (these areas normally interpret these messages and make you feel pain).
The World Health Organization (WHO) cites acupuncture as an effective treatment for the management of both acute and chronic pain.
There are 3 proven methods that explain how acupuncture reduces pain;

1. Gate theory

2. The opiate theory

Once inserted, the needle activates the midbrain to release beta-endorphins into the cerebrospinal fluid and met-enkephalin into the plasma. This cascade causes the release of other neurotransmitters that block pain sensations. Both endorphins and enkephalins are naturally occurring opiate-like substances produced by the body in situations where pain is needed. Opiates are the basic compounds from which pharmaceutical pain relievers such as codeine and morphine are made.

3. Antihistamine principle

Once inserted, the needle activates a mechanism that regulates (reduces) the amount of histamine and bradykinin in the blood. These are substances that cause inflammation and pain during chronic or acute injury.

Traditional acupuncture principles

Energy (Qi) circulates through the body through a series of pathways called meridians, such as blood vessels. Wherever the blood flows, it brings nourishing and life-giving properties to the surrounding tissues and organs. Qi is the vital energy needed to pump the heart to move blood as needed. Broadly speaking, qi gives the same vitality to every single cell, tissue, muscle, organ and gland in the body. Therefore, a blockage in the flow of qi anywhere in the body will disrupt the amount of nutrients reaching our cells, tissues, muscles, organs and glands.
Many things can cause blockage of Qi: poor diet, physical trauma, emotional trauma, inherited weaknesses, many disease processes and chemical, physical and mental stress, to name just a few.
By inserting fine sterile needles into specific points, blockages of Qi that cause pain are cleared and smooth flow is restored. Once done, the pain will go away.

Treatment protocol

It is not unusual to get significant relief after just one treatment. Often with severe pain, 2-4 treatments over 1-3 weeks are usually required to achieve optimal pain relief effects. For chronic pain, 1-2 treatments per week for a longer period of time are usually necessary.
Any pain condition may involve a combination of other pain relief methods (yoga, fitness rehabilitation, physiotherapy, etc.). Herbal salves and preparations may also enter the treatment field, along with some recommended supplements. Other traditional techniques such as cupping and moxibustion are also often used. You may be asked to perform some simple techniques at home or at work between treatments to help the treatment work.
