The Science Behind CBD
CBD stands for Cannabidiol (can-na-bid-i-ol), one of at
least 104 natural active compounds found in cannabis
plants, including the marijuana or hemp plant, called
Cannabis Sativa.
When Cannabis Sativa is cultivated to produce
psychoactive drugs, the flowers and buds of this female
plant are processed to manufacture what we know as
marijuana. Recreational marijuana contains high
amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the principal
psychoactive component of cannabis. It also contains low
amounts of CBD, a non-psychoactive compound of a
cannabis plant.
In contrast, the hemp plant is the male genus of Cannabis
Sativa, and is grown to be harvested to produce hemp
seed oil, hemp fiber, and hemp CBD extract, the origin of
all Plants Not Pills™ products. To obtain the highest
amount of CBD, aerial parts of the hemp plant are used in
a process called ‘extraction’.
CBD extract contains high amount of CBD, and
non-traceable amount of THC, therefore does not cause
“high” or euphoric effect in humans or animals.
Cannabis plants produce compounds called
cannabinoids, lipidic molecules that
stimulate the cannabinoid receptors in
diverse cells of the body:

There are at least 113 different cannabinoids isolated from cannabis with different effects, but the most noticeable cannabinoids are CBD, THC and CBN. Cannabidiol (or CBD) is a lipid found in high concentrations in hemp (+30% in the plant extract).
